Hook'd Magazine
Collaborative layout design for student fashion magazine.
Hook'd Magazine is a student-run fashion, beauty, and culture publication at the University of Texas at Austin, dedicated to providing emerging creatives with invaluable artistic and professional experiences.
As a layout design member in Hook'd, I am tasked with assisting with the ideation and execution of writing, creating, and developing photoshoot looks in a magazine story. At the end of the process, I create an engaging magazine layout that encapsulates the writing, photography, and semester theme for the magazine. So far, I have worked on two stories, "3:00 AM" and "Birds of Paradise."

My work at Hook'd has a quick turnaround. We have three weeks to use the completed creative assets to create layouts. A fun part of this challenge is observing each other's work, getting inspired, and learning new methods to create in InDesign and Illustrator.

Putting Pen to Paper
Representing a group of creatives
The full circle effect of being a layout designer lies in the distribution of the physical magazine. Everyone on the team observes our published work and appreciates their contribution to the pages. Writers see their words published within the bounds of a cover, stylists see the tasteful pieces they curated adorned on a model, and photographers see their work displayed. Designers help put all of these pieces together at the end for a completed group project.
